Module Aims
This module enables students to understand, position and articulate their practice. Students learn to present and contextualise their work and themselves both visually and textually, in practical and theoretical situations.
There is a focus on the employment market, preparation and evaluation of placement, CV building, professional behaviour, interpersonal skills. Students will prepare for working with external bodies and develop self promotion material.
Students will research areas of professional interest in preparation for a career in their chosen field and develop presentation skills and other techniques to a professional standard.
Brief
You have two possible options for a starting point: ‘Olympolis’ Exhibition submission or write your own 500 word proposal to develop an idea you have worked on over the past 12 months; aiming to realise more professionally a previous brief. This can be either an object based work or a publication, book or multiple.
You will need to plan access to college facilities and workshops; Sign-up workshops in Glass, screen printing and Book Binding are available on a 1st come basis. The focus is on developing and realising a project which may inform your research for your FMP.
You will be asked to write a 500 word outline proposal supported with images / quotes to present your ideas to a small panel of students on Tuesday 12th May via Powerpoint. This proposal should be informed by research into proposals and statements by artists / designers.
Preparation/Research
For Wednesday 6th May research 1 / 2 potential training, residency or job opportunities to use as examples for the CV / Letter of Application session. Send off for the application / job specification so you can direct the session to your individual needs. You will also use this information to prepare for the Interview Techniques (half-day/ p.m only) session on Wednesday 13th May.
Your research file should include a range of art and design employment opportunities, training, artist or designer residencies, Post Graduate course prospectuses, Graduate Training Programmes which are of particular relevance to your future development. You will receive info/guidance from Cheryl and Alison Stimpson on possible web / search engines.
Evidence of research and critical analysis of contemporary designers, artists and practitioners who reflect and mirror your current and future positioning within art & design.
Research, explore and analyse Interdisciplinary approaches to Art & Design; comment on how you position yourself within the Interdisciplinary realm.
